The vertically aligned liquid crystal display device comprises: a liquid crystal cell filled with liquid crystals having a negative dielectric anisotropy, disposed between a first polarizing plate and a second polarizing plate whose absorption axes are vertical to each other; one +A plate and one -C plate disposed between the first polarizing plate and the liquid crystal cell; and one more +A plate disposed between the second polarizing plate and the liquid crystal cell. The optical axis of the +A plate adjacent to the first polarizing plate is perpendicular to the absorption axis of the first polarizing plate, and the optical axis of the +A plate adjacent to the second polarizing plate is parallel to the absorption axis of the second polarizing plate. Further, the vertically aligned liquid crystal display device comprises: a biaxial retardation film included between the first polarizing plate and the liquid crystal cell; and one +A plate included between the second polarizing plate and the liquid crystal cell.
