<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bar-code reading device and a bar-code reading method that require no modification of a host apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: An identification information extraction part 1b acquires extended bar-code information including identification information identifying an article and predetermined extension information about the article, and extracts the identification information from the acquired extended bar-code information.
