PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus and an imaging method for reducing the possibility of missing a shooting opportunity as much as possible. SOLUTION: A digital camera executes first still image photography while keeping an in-focus state of video photography for through-image display when a first instruction (half-press of a release button) is issued to start setting an in-focus state for the still image photography during video photography for through-image display (a step S4). After the end of the first still image photography, the digital camera updates the in-focus state and sets shooting conditions for the still image photography by an AF function (a step S5), and when a second instruction (full-press of the release button) is issued to start the still image photography after completion of setting (a step S6: YES), the digital camera performs second still image photography using the set shooting conditions in the new in-focus state (a step S7).
