<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electro-optical device and a projector provided with the electro-optical device, capable of effectively reducing occurrence of chromatic aberration of magnification. <P>SOLUTION: The electro-optical device 1 includes: an optical modulation element 20 that modulates light from a light source; a signal separation part 102 that separates input image information into color information and brightness information; a driving means 106 or the like that drives the optical modulation element so as to emit a plurality of optical images with a plurality of prescribed periods respectively on the basis of the color information; a brightness modulation element 70 that performs brightness modulation on the basis of the brightness information with respect to the plurality of optical images; a relay optical system 40 that relays the plurality of optical images between the optical modulation element and the brightness modulation element; polarizing optical systems 30, 60 that include grid polarizer WG1, etc.; a liquid crystal element 50 in which vertically aligned liquid crystal composed of vertically aligned liquid crystal molecules is held between a pair of substrates, and which inclines the liquid crystal molecules and can refract the plurality of optical images respectively; and a control means 108 that controls the liquid crystal element so as to change the inclination angle of the liquid crystal molecules in the prescribed period. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
