A flap 15 (Fig. 5) on the end of one side wall of a length of flexible gussetted tubing 6 is secured to the end of the other side wall and the gusset folds then opened out and the portions 20 secured to the side walls so that a block-bottomed bag is formed. The flap 15 may extend beyond the ends of the gusset folds (Fig. 1B, not shown), or the tubing may be slit at 10, 11 (Fig. 1, not shown), and the portion 14 either removed or folded under. The portions of the side walls adjacent the flaps 14, 15 may be removed so that only tha gusset walls 8a, 8b, 9b are folded in. These walls 8a, 8b, 9a, 9b may be long enough to touch at the middle of the flap 15. Alternatively, narrow strips of the side walls may be left. The tubing may be multi-ply and the plies staggered at the end of the tube. Heat sealing or a binding agent may be used to secure the block bottom. |
