PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical receptacle having a structure for making optical coupling tolerance larger. SOLUTION: In the optical receptacle 11, a holder 15 holds a sleeve 17. A glass member 13 propagates light relating to the optical receptacle 11. The holder 15 contains a hole 21 that extends in the direction of a prescribed axis Ax, wherein a first columnar portion 13a of the glass member 13 is held in this hole 21. One end 13c is installed in a manner making physical contact (PC) possible to an optical connector plug 23 that is optically coupled to the optical receptacle 11, while the other end 13d is installed in a manner making optical coupling possible to an optical sub-assembly 39. The sleeve 17 accepts the optical connector plug 23. The glass member 13 has no refractive index distribution relating to radial direction for the purpose of confinement of light like an optical fiber, nor high refractive index region extending along the axis Ax like a core of an optical fiber.
