PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording and reproducing apparatus which reproduces high S/N signals. SOLUTION: The magnetic recording and reproducing apparatus includes a magnetic information reproducing head 1 including a magnetic oscillator 2, and a magnetic recording disk 3. The magnetic oscillator 2 detects a magnetic field from the magnetic recording disk to reproduce the signal. By defining a criteria to determine the revolution of the magnetic recording disk 3, the frequency shifts of the magnetic oscillator 2 by the magnetic field 5 from the magnetic recording disk 3, and the full width at half maximum of the oscillation frequency and spectrum, i.e. the characteristics of the magnetic oscillator 2 so that the reproduced signal from the magnetic oscillator 2 satisfy the desired S/N ratio, the magnetic recording and reproducing apparatus is configured based on the criteria.
