PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cargo monitoring method and a cargo monitoring system which enables monitoring of move of cargo in transit, informing when there is a threat of occurrence of collapse of cargo piles or friction of the cargo, and further informing theft of the cargo. SOLUTION: The cargo monitoring method is characterized by measuring a distance to the cargo by a laser type measuring area sensors 11a and 11b installed in a luggage room of a vehicle and transmitting a signal of distance information 40; performing information processing of the distance information 40 by a position arithmetic unit 13 and transmitting position information 41 of the cargo; transmitting vehicle travelling information 42 by a vehicle travelling sensor 17; analyzing vehicle travelling information 42 and position information 41 by a cargo behavior analyzing apparatus 15; transmitting a cargo alarm signal 44 when shaking of the cargo over the magnitude set up beforehand occurs during traveling of the vehicle; and transmitting a cargo theft alarm signal 45 when the cargo moves during stop of the vehicle.
