An incinerator, particularly for incinerating municipal refuse, comprising; a hollow housing (13, 14) arranged with a generally horizontal axis (16, 17), means to rotate the hollow housing about said axis, means (24, 26, 27) to supply refuse to be incinerated to one end of said hollow housing, means (33, 34, 36) to provide an oxidant gas into said hollow housing, means to ignite the refuse such as burner means arranged to direct flames into the said hollow housing, the cross section of the interior surface of the hollow housing comprising a plurality of sub-sections of similar or identical section, to form a plurality of interlinked compartments, whereby as the hollow housing rotates, refuse tumbles from one compartment to another with a gap between the tumbling material whereby the oxidant gas may access the tumbling refuse to assist in providing complete combustion of the refuse. |
