<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device and illumination control method of providing more effective illumination. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The user turns on a power source (step 401). A control part outputs a power-on signal to turn on a TV broadcast receiver (step 402). A prescribed time after the output of the power-on signal is counted (step 403). When finishing counting, a PWM control part outputs a PWM control signal to an integration circuit located at the post stage (step 404). With delay of the PWM control signal output to the integration circuit, a switching element is gradually shifted to be turned on. A current flowing in the LED elements in an LED unit is slowly increased, accordingly, the LED elements slowly become brighter.
