PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a halogenated sulfonic acid. SOLUTION: The method for producing the halogenated sulfonic acid represented by formula (II) (wherein R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP>and R<SP>3</SP>are each a hydrogen atom, halogen atom or the like; n is an integer of 1-20) includes bringing a sulfonate represented by formula (I) (wherein m is 1 or 2; and M is an alkali metal atom or an alkaline earth metal atom) into contact with an H type cation exchange resin.
