<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a suction nozzle body and a vacuum cleaner which are capable of swiftly switching the direction of rotation of a rotary cleaning body according to the change of the moving direction of the suction nozzle body by enhancing the resolution in the detection of movement of a moving direction detection portion. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The moving direction detection portion 36 operatively associated with a front wheel 35 of the suction nozzle body 8 includes a photosensor 45 and a rotor 42. The outer surface 42a of the rotor 42 is formed in such a way that the length of the radius from the minimum radius rmin to the maximum radius rmax varies over one round around the axis of the rotating shaft 39.
