PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery with small degradation of shutdown response speed of a separator and overcharge characteristics even after a long-term cycle under high temperature condition, together with excellent high temperature cycle characteristics. SOLUTION: The nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery is equipped with a nonaqueous electrolyte containing carboxylic acid ester and a nitrile compound, and a separator with a porosity of 28-54% and with an air permeability controlled at 86-450 sec/dl.
