PURPOSE: A liquid crystal display device is provided to ensure high ion density and to be applied to various driving methods. CONSTITUTION: A liquid crystal alignment agent comprises polyamic acids that are reaction products of tetracarboxylic dianhydride and diamine, or their mixture. The diamines are represented by chemical formulas (1) ~ (8). In chemical formulas, X is oxygen atom or NR^6, wherein R^6 represents hydrogen atom, C1-30 alkyl group or phenyl group; R^1, R^4, and R^5 represent an aromatic group or heterocyclic group containing monocycle or plural polycycles; and R^2 and R^3 represent an aromatic group or containing monocycle or plural polycycles, plural polycycle group or alicyclic group, a group in which an alkylene group is bonded with ring groups, or alkylene group.
