<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ion detector capable of detecting ions precisely, and to provide an ion generator. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A U-shaped protective electrode 69 for surrounding a nearly rectangular capture electrode 66 formed on a circuit board is connected to the output terminal of an operational amplifier IC1 for forming an impedance converter for setting to potential nearly equal to that of the capture electrode 66, and a lacking section that the protective electrode 69 has at one side in a longitudinal direction is directed in a direction where air of which negative ions should be detected flows back. Also, the capture electrode 66 is pulled up to DC5V by a resistor R4, and a conductive pattern reaching a non-inverted input 68 through a protective resistor R1 from the capture electrode 66 is surrounded by a conductive pattern of the protective electrode 69.
