PURPOSE: A power control device for an image display device and a method thereof are provided to operate an image display device with minimum power only through a function which is set by a user. CONSTITUTION: A power control method for an image display device comprises the following steps: a step of switching on a first power switch for supplying power if a power on signal of a TV is inputted(S103); a step of switching on a second power switch for supplying power to operate functions if particular functions of the TV is set(S105); a step of switching off the first power switch and maintaining the switch on state of the second switch if a power off signal is inputted(S107); a step of maintaining power supply for the execution of particular functions which is set through the second power switch(S108).
