Gas to be dried is first heated and passed through one of two adsorbers 10 and 12, which contain material such as activated alumina, to reactivate the adsorber before being passed through the other adsorber to be dried, control means reversing the role of the adsorbers and the flow to the adsorbers when predetermined conditions occur in the adsorber being reactivated. With the valves 13 and 14 in positions as shown gas entering through 16 passes through heater 15 and valve 13 to adsorber 12 to reactivate it, and then passes through cooler-condensor 17 and separator 19, where moisture condensed is tapped off to trap 21 to adsorber 10. When a first quantity of gas has flowed through adsorber 12 the rise in temperature is sensed by T3 which turns off heater 15, unheated gas continuing to flow as before. When adsorber 12 has cooled to a predetermined operating temperature by unheated gas flowing through it thermostat T2 energizes a solenoid M2 which causes valves 13 and 14 to shift to their alternative positions, so placing adsorber 12 in drying service, and the reactivation of adsorber 10 begins. During the shifting, limit switches L13<1> and L141 close momentarily to energize coil HR which turns back on the heater and heated gas flows through adsorber 10 to reactivate it until T3 again operates to turn off the heater. After cooling solenoid Ml causes valves 13 and 14 to return to their former position, so giving a continuous drying system.
