PURPOSE: A liquid crystal display and a driving method thereof are provided to be functioned as interior when TV is not used by displaying an image such as a picture in a frame with minimum power consumption. CONSTITUTION: A liquid crystal display and driving method includes a liquid crystal panel, a backlight unit, a data driving circuit, a gate driving circuit, a backlight driving circuit, a timing controller, an internal memory, a CELP screen drive controller, a scaler part, and a selecting unit. The internal memory stores a first internal image signal for driving CELP screen. The CELP screen drive controller generates a dimming signal and extracts the internal image signal from the memory by generating an internal timing signal. The scaler part generates an external image signal and timing signal for a node drive. The selecting unit supplies one of output of the CELP screen drive controller and output of the scaler part to the timing controller.
