PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for playing audio sources for a portable terminal are provided to convert a signal having low sampling ratio into a signal having high sampling ratio by restoring a high frequency signal in a sound source which is based on a low sampling ratio. CONSTITUTION: A frequency analyzing unit(20) analyzes at least one frequency component included in an audio signal to be reproduced, and transmits the frequency information for the frequency components. A harmonic generating unit(30) uses the frequency included in the frequency information as basic frequency, and generates a harmonic signal having integer times frequency for the basic frequency. A synthesis unit(40) synthesizes the audio signal with the harmonic signal.
