<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily display an image printed on a transparent display panel in an appropriate mode in accordance with the image. Ž<P>SOLUTION: An image is printed with a transparent ink on the surface of a display panel which is a transparent planar member, and is displayed by allowing light to be incident to an end face of the display panel to brighten the image formed of the transparent ink. Predetermined information (specific information) corresponding to the printed image is stored as readable in the display panel, and upon displaying the image, the image is displayed by reading out the specific information and allowing light to be incident in a mode in accordance with the specific information. By preliminarily storing appropriate specific information in accordance with an image printed on the display panel, the printed image can be displayed in an appropriate mode.
