<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image data management method for an easily used electronic video camera, wherein advantages of random access of digital images and continuous image viewing performed by a video tape system are both utilized. Ž<P>SOLUTION: Recording of moving images is performed by using an electronic camera 10000 for recording in a random-access medium, for example, not a sequential medium such as a tape, but a hard disk 10200 for generating a single image file for each photographing of a cut. Many image files of several to several tens of seconds generated during photographing are automatically divided into groups according to specific conditions such as a time frame, a place or the like for photographing.
