The device (1) has a roll-over bar (2) displaced between an installation position and a usage position. A pyrotechnically operatable actuator (4) i.e. linear actuator, is provided for driving of the roll-over bar in the usage position, and an interlocking unit (5) is provided for removable interlocking of the roll-over bar in the non-usage position. The interlocking unit is actuated by the actuator for removal of interlocking of the roll-over bar. The interlocking unit and the actuator are not stand in effective connection in an initial actuating area.
