<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve sound attenuation effect and efficiency without increasing the number of components and getting bulky. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A hermetic compressor is provided with a cover 9 covering a compression mechanism 200, discharges compressed discharge gas from a discharge port 7a of a hermetic vessel of a compression mechanism 200 into the cover 9, is provided with a lower bearing in the compression mechanism 200, a cylinder, and a passage 22 communicating with an upper bearing, discharges the gas to a hermetic vessel inside a motor side space 13 through the passage 22, and discharges the same to the outside of the hermetic vessel 100 when gas sucked from the outside of the hermetic vessel 100 is compressed and is discharged to the outside of the hermetic vessel 100 after discharging the same to one side 19 of the hermetic vessel divided by the compression mechanism 200. In the hermetic compressor, passage diameters at an inlet and an outlet are made small and an inside passage diameter is made large in the communicating passage. A plurality of passages in such a structure are provided.
