In a rotary sliding vane pump comprising a . pump body 10, Fig.1, having a substantially cylindrical pumping chamber 11 wherein is eccentrically mounted for rotation a rotor 14, Fig.2, having a pair of diametral slots 15, 16 slidably mounting blades 17, 18 whose opposite ends co-operate with the peripheral surface of the pumping chamber, each blade is divided into two overlapping parts urged apart by leaf springs 19. To minimize leakage between the blades and endwalls 12, 13 of the pump body the surfaces against which the springs 19 act are inclined relative to the rotational axis of the rotor so that each blade half is moved axially, one half into engagement with the end-wall 12 and the other half into engagement with the end-wall 13 to give a staggered leakage path. |
