The method involves operating a heat engine at a constant idling speed, and transmitting part of torque of the engine according to movement of an accelerator pedal (CPA) when speed (V) of a motor vehicle is below a threshold speed (Vs) and the movement of the accelerator pedal is below a threshold percentage. The engine torque is transmitted fully and the engine speed is increased according to the movement of the accelerator pedal when the vehicle speed is below the threshold speed and the movement of the accelerator pedal is greater than the threshold percentage. An independent claim is also included for a device for controlling the movement of a vehicle.
