Novel compounds of the formula <FORM:1105894/C2/1> wherein R and R1 are hydrogen atoms or alkyl, aryl, bromoary, aralkyl or R2CO- groups, where R2 is an alkyl, aryl, bromoaryl or aralkyl group, provided that at least one of R and R1 is an alkyl, aryl, bromoaryl or aralkyl group, are obtained by reacting the corresponding diphenolic compound with etherifying agents to give partially and/or fully etherified products and, if desired, reacting the partially alkylated compounds with acylating agents. Therapeutic compositions having estrogenic properties and useful for promoting the growth of meat-producing animals, contain the above compounds as active ingredient. The composition may be in a form suitable for oral or parenteral application, e.g. as a constituent of an animal foodstuff. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 951,349. |
