A touch sensitive display 1 has a flexible touch sensitive layer 4, a flexible display screen 5 and a haptic feedback mechanism formed from a grid of adaptably configurable actuators 7 where some rise as a block to form a soft key, button or control area to give initial feedback, and lower and rise again or vibrate to give reactive feedback when a touch is detected. Energy may be saved by not energising the actuators when the user is touching a part of the screen away from the button. A controller can distinguish between a sliding touch and a press, and can store pre-defined actuator patterns for keys. The display can be part of e,g a music player, PDA, or camera.
