PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and method for compression molding of a clay-based material, capable of simplifying the processes to shorten a working time, and not causing cracks and breakage for a block formed by molding the clay-based material. SOLUTION: The compression molding device 10 of the clay-based material is equipped with: a form 11 which is used for casting the clay-based material and can be divided into a plurality of frame members 15 in the vertical direction with respect to the compression direction of the clay-based material; a reaction force frame 12 provided on the outer periphery of the form 11; and the same number of hydraulic jacks 13 as the frame members 15, which are interposed between the reaction force frame 12 and the form 11, and abut to the respective outer surfaces 15a of the frame member 15. The hydraulic jacks 13 pressurize the frame members 15 in the vertical direction with respect to the compression direction and the central axis side of the form 11, and the frame member 15 is demolded from a block 20 in the vertical direction with respect to the compression direction and in the opposite direction to the central axis of the form 11.
