The device (1) has a variable turbine (7) and/or compressor provided with a blade bearing ring (4) and rotatable guide vanes (5), where an annular disk (9) covers side parts of the guide vanes lying opposite to the blade bearing ring. The annular disk has a heat isolating and a friction reducing material with ceramic coating. The annular disk is directly connected to a turbine housing (2) by spacer elements. The annular disk includes rounded off or chamfered corner regions, and forms a part of a flow channel that guides exhaust gas.
