<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a male screw member and a method for manufacturing the same, saving resources and reducing the weight without extremely reducing the screw strength. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This male screw member 10, as its feature, includes one or more thickness reducing recessed parts 16 formed on the outer peripheral surface of a bar-shaped member 12, extending in the axial direction, and a thread 18 provided on the outer peripheral surface except for the thickness reducing recessed parts 16. In the male screw member 10, since the one or more thickness reducing recessed parts 16 extending in the axial direction are provided on the outer peripheral surface of the solid bar-shaped member 12, the resources can be saved by reducing quantity of metallic material constituting the male screw member 10.
