[Also in Division H2] An apparatus for stripping insulation from a wire and then crimping a connector on to it comprises a table 1 on which a strip 9, Fig. 5, of connectors 10 is moved by finger 16 into the working area of the apparatus, a slide 28 carrying the stripping means (Division H2) which has an axial hole into which the end of the wire is inserted, a clamp 24 holding the wire which has its insulation removed as the slide is withdrawn axially from the working area, a ram 2 carrying a composite tool 60 for pressing the bared wire into the U-section ferrule 14 of a connector and crimping it as the part 66, Fig. 5, of the tool severs the connector from the strip by shearing the portion 12, and means to initiate and co-ordinate the cycle of operations. The cycle is started by means of a micro-switch operatively associated with the clamp 24 and the action of the slide co-ordinated with that of the ram by means of a linkage thereto, Fig. 6 (not shown).</p> |
