The method involves circulating a fluid into ground with a temperature difference and then circulation is disconnected to attain a controlled comparison of the temperature difference of the ground. The fluid is circulated out from a heat exchanger by detecting temperature and flow rate over the time and thermal conductivity of a filling material (2) is determined in a bore hole (3). An independent claim is included for an arrangement for determining heat extraction capacity of geothermal probe.
