METHOD AND DEVICE FOR DRIVING A BISTABLE NEMATIC DOT-MATRIX LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY

Disclosed is a drive means which is optimized for a bistable nematic dot-matrix liquid crystal display.  The drive means comprises: a bistable liquid crystal display panel (10) having a common line and a segment line; a common drive unit (11) for driving the common line; a segment drive unit (12) for driving the segment line; a power source circuit (13) for generating a drive potential; and a control circuit (14) for controlling the common drive unit, the segment drive unit and the power source circuit.  At a low-temperature time, the drive means selects the drive mode, in which dot pixels are driven in the maximum amplitude capable of outputting the inter-terminal voltage of the common and the segment clamping the dot pixels.  At a high-temperature time, the drive means selects the drive mode, in which the drive is done in an amplitude lower than the maximum for the substantial output and avoiding the central potential.
