<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically perform suitable image processing according to features of image data, and perform image processing of a small processing load. <P>SOLUTION: The apparatus includes: a first means which memorizes image data; a second means which performs edge emphasizing processing and smoothing processing to the memorized image data; a third means which counts a number of edge pixels in image data showing one page of an original image; a fourth means which discriminates that the original image is an image including many characters when the counted number of the edge pixels is a predetermined threshold value or more, discriminates that the original image is an image including many photographic images when the number of the edge pixels is a predetermined threshold value or less, and establishes the edge emphasizing processing and the smoothing processing executed by the second means based on the discrimination result. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
