The method involves measuring distances (dh, db) separating a user from aimed top and bottom points (H, B) of an object. Inclination angles (alpha-h, beta-b) of the points are measured, and a digital picture of each point is taken. Diameter of section of the object at each point is determined from characteristics of the picture, scale obtained from parameters of the unit, and the distances. Object height (h) between the points is calculated from the distances and angles. Volume between the sections is calculated from the height and diameters under a tapered hypothesis of shape of the object. An independent claim is also included for a device for remotely determining size and volume of an object such as growing tree log. |
