<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To display an image of super high resolution, exceeding full high-definition standard, using a plurality of image signal processing circuits for a general-purpose plasma display device. <P>SOLUTION: The plasma display device includes: an image signal division circuit 51 dividing a super-high resolution image signal SIG into a plurality of partial image signals SGa to SGd which do not exceed full high-definition standards and outputting the partial image signals SGa to SGd; partial signal processing circuits 52a to 52d calculating partial average luminance levels PLa to PLd of the partial image signals SGa to SGd, and converting the partial image signals SGa to SGd into partial image data DTa to DTd, showing the presence or the absence of a write pulse; an average luminance level calculating circuit 53 calculating an average luminance level APL of the super-high resolution image signal SIG, based on the plurality of partial average luminance levels PLa to PLd; and a timing generating circuit 45 generating a timing signal.
