<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve flexibility in the operation of an actuator to make a slender member perform deforming operation by using a simple method. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In the embodiment of the actuator, a superelastic alloyed wire 24 functions as a core material for a soft tube 22, and so an actuator body 20 is held in a straight shape along the original shape of the superelastic alloyed wire 24 when a shape memory alloy wire 26 is not energized. At the same time, when a portion of the shape memory alloy wire 26, inserted through the soft tube 22, is shorter, the soft tube 22 is deformed to be pulled to the side of the shape memory alloy wire 26 together with the superelastic alloyed wire 24. The shape memory alloy wire 26 is twisted at a predetermined position in the longitudinal direction and arranged relative to the superelastic alloyed wire 24 in a different position relationship, and so the actuator body 20 is deformed in a different direction with the predetermined position as a boundary when the shape memory alloy wire 26 is shorter.
