A gas-scrubber comprises an inlet 10 for the gas to be scrubbed discharging into a vessel 12 partly filled with liquid and surrounded at its lower end by a vessel 16 also containing liquid, a plurality of pumps 15 withdrawing via pipes 13 and 14 a mixture of gas and liquid from vessel 12 and liquid from vessel 16 and discharging the resulting gas/liquid mixture via pipes 19 with the upper portion of vessel 12, pipes 23 connecting the upper portion of vessel 12 with the vessel 16, pipes 26 connected to pumps 27 withdrawing gas from vessel 12 and supplying to a vessel 29 containing liquid and divided into a series of compartments through which the gas passes to a pipe-manifold 34, and a further vessel 35 containing liquid through which the gas finally bubbles before leaving by an outlet 36.
