<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an ionizer that prevents the airflow from a fan from being shut off or disturbed by a cleaning member for cleaning discharge electrodes and that avoids contamination of the electricity removal environment and object due to dirts which are exfoliated from the discharge electrodes through cleaning to splash around a surrounding area with the air. Ž<P>SOLUTION: Discharge electrodes 3a, 3b for generating ion and a member 23 for cleaning the discharge electrodes are mounted on electrode support frames 11a, 11b which are detachably attached to a case 5 of an ionizer. When the electrode support frames 11a, 11b are attached to the case 5, the cleaning member 23 occupies a retraction position where the cleaning member 23 does not shut off or disturb air that is supplied from a fan 4. Upon the detachment of the electrode support frames 11a, 11b from the case 5, the cleaning member 23 becomes movable. Then, the cleaning member 23 is moved while being brought into contact with the discharging parts 14b of the discharge electrodes 3a, 3b one after another.
