<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing a display and the display wherein patterning can be made on a large-area substrate with a simple process, and improve light-emitting characteristics of the light-emitting layer. Ž<P>SOLUTION: On the hole transporting layer 13, the red light-emitting layer 14 R containing red light-emitting material having radical reactivity and the radical initiator layer 31 containing radical initiator are formed in this order. Out of the radical initiator layer 31, the radical initiator contained in the formation planned area of the red light-emitting layer15 R is excited and in the red light-emitting layer14 R, the formation planned area of the red light-emitting layer15 R is polymerized by radical chain reaction. After that, for example, by a development process with chemical, or by carrying out heating, the radical initiator layer 31 and the area which is not polymerized in the red light-emitting material layer 14R are removed.
