SOLUTION: In a first time period from a time point when a requested increase in an output is a predetermined value or more to a time point when a predetermined time period has been passed, a fuel injection amount is controlled so that a cylinder air-fuel ratio can be significantly varied between a specific rich air-fuel ratio and a specific lean air-fuel ratio across a predetermined range of an air-fuel ratio including a theoretical air-fuel ratio. In a second time period other than the first time period, the fuel injection amount is controlled so that the cylinder air-fuel ratio can be gradually varied within the predetermined range of an air-fuel ratio and with a smaller difference in an air-fuel ratio than that between the specific rich air-fuel ratio and the specific lean air-fuel ratio.
