<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a continuously variable transmission which solves such as risk that a device construction is complicated by configuring a friction ring member which moves in axial direction in accordance with a desired transmission ratio so as to stop it at a stable position without moving an actuator body. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In the cone ring continuously variable transmission, a transmission ratio control actuator 43 is immovably positioned and fixed on a side of a case 15. A transmission control means 7 implements mechanical control so as to make the friction ring member 6 stop at a stable position which fulfills a desired transmission ratio by slanting the friction ring member 6 with respect to an axis by means of actuation of the transmission ratio control actuator 43 so that an inclined angle of the friction ring member 6 moving based on the inclination amounts decreases to zero. Accordingly, the continuously variable transmission enables the friction ring member 6 moving in axial direction in accordance with the desired transmission ratio to stop at the stable position by mechanical control of the transmission control means 7 without moving the actuator body.
