PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a preform which contributes to the weight reduction of a plastic bottle, shows successful injection molding properties and can minimize the distortion of a bottom of the plastic bottle. SOLUTION: The preform 10 has a bottom 13 with a gate 15 for injection molding, a barrel 12 which continues to the bottom 13, a mouth 11 and a neck lower part 14 formed between the mouth 11 and the barrel 12. The wall thickness of the overall barrel 12 is t<SB>0</SB>. Besides, the bottom 13 has a uniform wall thickness part 16 showing a wall thickness uniformity as a whole with a thinner wall t<SB>2</SB>than t<SB>0</SB>and a variable wall thickness part 17 which is formed between the uniform wall thickness part 16 and the barrel 12 and shows a smooth variation of the wall thickness t<SB>1</SB>to a range of t<SB>2</SB>to t<SB>0</SB>.
