PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase the convenience of an onboard navigation apparatus which stores information on spots, a navigation system, and method of controlling the same. SOLUTION: The onboard navigation apparatus, the navigation system, and method of controlling the same includes: a receiving means for receiving from an external device, first spot information generated by the external device out of pieces of spot information being information on spots for destination setting; spot information generation means for generating second spot information out of the pieces of spot information; a determination information generation means for generating determination information representing whether the generation origins of the first spot information and the second spot information are the external device; and a storage means for storing the first spot information and the second spot information in association with the determination information.
