<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sewing machine by which even a user unfamiliar to a sewing work can uniform a seam pitch with a simple configuration in a free motion sewing. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The sewing machine includes: a control needle 41 which is insertable into a processed fabric and formed of an elastically deformable material to be moved together with the processed fabric while the end is being inserted into the processed fabric; an electromagnetic actuator 43 for vertically driving the control needle 41 in connection with the vertical movement of a sewing needle 24; and a control board 61 having a hole 633 where the control needle 41 is inserted. When the processed fabric is moved, the end of the control needle 41 inserted into the processed fabric is allowed to abut on the inner wall of the hole 633, thereby limiting the movement of the processed fabric, which exceeds the prescribed seam pitch.
