<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shake correcting device that corrects variation as necessary by diagnosing whether a shake correcting function normally operates without using a special device, and a self-diagnostic method and a self-adjusting method for the shake correcting device. Ž<P>SOLUTION: When receiving an instruction to perform fault diagnosis, a Tucom 100 switches a driving signal switching part 214 so that a CCD unit 20 may be displaced according to a driving signal from an excitation signal generating part 213 (step S3). Thereafter, an angular velocity signal obtained through a gyro sensor 201 is AD converted and fetched (step S4). A fault diagnosis part 205 decides whether or not a difference d between a maximum value and a minimum value of a value fetched by AD conversion is equal to or above a predetermined threshold (step S5). If d is equal to or above the threshold, it is determined that the shake correcting function is normal (step S6). If d is under the threshold, it is determined that any fault occurs (step S7).
