<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus causing no turning-up of a cleaning blade even when a fresh process cartridge is used. <P>SOLUTION: When the process cartridge is a fresh cartridge, after a toner (developer) is sufficiently fed in the entire longitudinal area of a developer carrying member, an initialization operation for depositing the toner on a contact portion between an image bearing member and a cleaning blade is carried out.
