PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a user to grasp that the end of roll paper is near even when the roll paper without a near-end mark attached beforehand is used. SOLUTION: The printer 101 is equipped with a thermal head 8 which prints printing data transmitted from a host computer 102 to the roll paper 7, a near-end detector 17 which detects the near-end of the roll paper 7, and a near-end printing control part 53 which prints a near-end pattern 65 that shows the near-end at the time of printing to the roll paper 7 when the near-end is detected by the near-end detector 17.
