PURPOSE: An internal voltage generator and an operating method thereof are provided to cope with a voltage level difference of an internal voltage and a reference voltage by generating an oscillation signal with a cycle. CONSTITUTION: A level detecting means(210) generates a detection voltage corresponding to a voltage level difference of an internal voltage and a reference voltage. An oscillation signal generation means(230) generates an oscillation signal with a cycle corresponding to the voltage level of the detected voltage. The internal voltage generation means responds to the oscillation signal. The internal voltage generation means generates the internal voltage. The internal voltage generation means generates the internal voltage in response to the oscillation signal through a pumping motion. The oscillation signal has the periodic time corresponding to the driving current controlled according to the voltage level of a detection voltage.
