Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 822,047.ALSO:The invention comprises water-soluble mono-, dis- and polyazo, metallised azo, anthraquinone and phthalocyanine dyes containing a dihalogenopyrimidyl-amino group, and a process for making them by reacting water-soluble metal-free or metal-containing azo, anthraquinone or phthalocyanine dyestuffs containing at least one reactive amino group with 2:4:6-trihalopyrimidine. The azo dyes may also be made by reacting organic compounds containing at least one reactive amino group and a diazotisable amino group or a group convertible thereto or a carbon atom capable of azo coupling with 2:4:6-trihalogenopyrimidine and then converting the intermediate obtained to an azo dyestuff by azo coupling. The halogen atoms of the halogenopyrimidine may be chlorine or bromine. Several types of dyes of the monoazo, metallised azo, anthranquinone and phthalocyanine series are described, and a large number of examples is given. The dyes dye, pad and print vegetable and animal fibres, fibres of regenerated cellulose, casein, animalised cellulose or polyamides, mixtures of such fibres, and leather in a wide variety of shades. The cellulose dyeings may be aftertreated with alkali at high temperatures, or the cellulose may be dyed in the presence of an alkali and then heated.
